Black And White For Weekend Perusing

Of course some whim from Jani Guzy!  I just love her work.

Love the giant graphics here. I think they work and probably could live with this.

Wow what to say? Absolutely fantastic and chic.  I'm loving this !

Well if I were going to throw all my eggs into one basket... this would be the one stunner to throw your graphics into. yikes!!!

No room is complete without black stripes of some scale somewhere.  Case in point.

I love the commercial look to this room and staircase. An awesome statement.

There is such a sweet balance in this redo dresser and the painting.  I think this is such a great do over for the right dresser.

We are seeing more and more, black and white with gray.  I think it tones the tension down a bit and softens the  impact.  I'm thinking of doing a room this color.

......last but not least another dreamy Jani Guzy print.  She is amazing.  I first saw her work here in Vancouver quite a few years ago.  She has since moved to Italy and still creating.  Thanks Jani!

Well the snow is piling up here in Vancouver.  It doesn't seem so daunting from ten stories up though, just a pretty white decor taken outside.  Happy weekend!  Participate!!!

White, A Great Backdrop

I love  the colors and the shape of these vintage style pillows on the white background here. The covered
button details run so tailored thru this whole theme.

Love the black outlines here both linear and curvy.  Perfect tension.  and of course the best, pink.

This is all about texture and so simple.  I'm not fond of the lamp but it adds another dimension.

I'm loving these gray walls.  So exquisite and accessible. I would love to do a room in this color with cream and black.

More texture.  I am a big fan of black and white stripes including zebra stripes.

Kelly Hoppen's amazing eye and talent. My favorite thing here? The Barcelona ottoman of course!
Not getting tired of white anytime soon.  I always feel comfortable and calm in it. It's always fresh and new and relates to clean somehow, untarnished, pure maybe. hmmmm that's something to think about.
It needs alot of texture and perhaps an understated metallic, but worth every edit to get it.
Happy Tuesday!

Filippo Manelli.....some provocative photography.

A fascinating new trend using colored smoke.
 I'm dazed by these photos.

They evoke such a fairytale feel.

Out with the cold, in with the woo. ~E. Marshall, "Spring Thought" Happy Friday!

What would a great Friday be without some inspiration from Philippe Starck. I love everything about these two shots.  I love the layers of color on the walls and sweet juxtapose of such beautiful Venetian mirrors and chandeliers.

This really makes me  want to write on my walls this weekend.!
Lily Pulitzers wallpaper is just writing on a pink background and it's gorgeous

still the most beautiful roses shot I've ever seen...thanks flickr.
Summer Roses still a distant dream,

dreamy collages......

The sun is shining , no it's blazing here today! and it reminds me that Spring is coming!!!

It's spring fever.  That is what the name of it is.  And when you've got it, you want - oh, you don't quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!  ~Mark Twain

Rufus Wainwrights New Album Cover...beautiful!

I was smitten by this sleek but pretty graphic.  He is very much an individual.  Just wanted to share it with you! Hope you had a great day!  I did girly things all day, organizing jewellery and makeup and listened to Harry Chapin and Chet Baker and a little Stan Getz with Astrud Gilberto for a little chill Brazil.  A little rain on my window tonight and the view is spectacular.  Good evening Vancouver!!!

Marcel Wanders Classics

Marcel Wanders `Wanderful !!!!`Exhilarating!!!!

If Philippe Starck is the Groucho Marx of design then Wanders is the Elvis Presley. With a rock – star like image, Wanders eschews austere minimalist concepts to create more whimsical and decorative products. The ubiquitous Dutch designer who has designed everything from furniture to audio equipment, counts among his patrons, pop-star BeyoncĂ© Knowles and hip-hop king Jay-Z.
November 2007

There are a few images that come to mind when I think of Marcel Wanders and this is one of them. This `Moon light`is just absolutely fantastical to me. I love it so much!! It really speaks to the humorous sensibilities of this genius. It`s one of his ultimate lighting creations in my opinion.

"I think that’s what design is: you make connection between things that are not connected yet". Marcel Wanders

This amazing signature graphic of Marcel Wanders is on every thing from walls to dramatic and edgy.

This is the other image I always think of when I hear his name. The pearls on the wall installation. Just stupendous!! I love that it doesn't come under the average wall covering disciplines we know or think of . The floor is also his signature graphic.

The crochet stool is an icon piece.

The tension of curve and lines here is so provocative. It`s still feminine tho. haha. Quite a contradiction. Brilliant!!

Of course I want to change the world. People who say they can’t under estimate themselves’.
Elle Decor 07

This masterpiece is called the `CanCan Light` of course! I can hear the sounds of the Moulin Rouge and movement of miles of fabric in the Can Can skirts of days gone by. Marcel Wanders has brought it forward and made it modern and exciting. His trademark thoughts.

This is called the `Paris Mirror`from The Beautiful Woman collection. I love that he thought of a name like Beautiful Woman for a collection of chic, exquisite, pampering pieces.

He said that this is his version of camping. I could go for this any day of the week!!

‘Nowadays people don’t just have things because they need them, they have things because they love them. That’s my vision.’
‘ I’m trying to do something that makes you feel like life is exploding. If that doesn’t happen, then it doesn’t make sense’
Grand Designs 2007

‘Design is not as it seems today- just a style!! It makes no sense to still follow the rules of ancient machinery. We can no longer fall in total awe at a tube being bent. We can no longer tell our audience that a product is better because it is easier to make it! Today the industry is able to follow humanity and make its most exciting dreams reality.
As we designers have to represent our public and their dreams instead of the machine and the anachronistic political dogmas it represents. We have to challenge the industry so they will learn to follow instead to lead.
It is on humanity that the design of the future must be built. With love, passion and poetry we will take design to new heights.’

Icon 2007

‘ I always try to concentrate on durability. I create objects that will continue to be relevant, things that people will keep for a lifetime’
‘In the past the industry wasn't capable of creating elaborate objects, but today we need to do more for our audience. Design should be driven by humanity, not technology’.
Home Beautiful 2007

"If I have any basic motivation it’s to inspire, so my b
iggest project is my life and I will make it a masterpiece"

hmmm............make life a masterpiece? YES!!!!! absolutely Yes!!!!!!

Deluge of Valentines Day Quotes and Photos. Happy Valentines Day!!

"Love Is A Passion Which Kindles Honor Into Noble Acts"
John Dryden

"A man's kiss is his signature." ~Mae West
"Each kiss a heart-quake..." ~Lord Byron, Don Juan
"Any man who can drive safely while kissing a pretty girl is simply not
giving the kiss the attention it deserves." ~Albert Einstein
Some things some will do for a kiss. I've seen this one.
"Kisses are like tears, the only real ones are the ones you can't hold back." ~Author Unknown

"Everybody winds up kissing the wrong person goodnight."
Andy Warhol

One of my favorites, but my absolute favorite kiss of all time on film is the kiss in "First Knight" yikes!!! When Richard Gere(fanning myself) grabs the female lead, he looks like he just swallowed her whole. The most anticipated kiss ever.
This quote is for the first boy I kissed..... so awkward hahaha.

"How far away the stars seem, and how far is our first kiss, and ah, how
old my heart."
William Butler Yeats

To me this day is about the Valentine that came into my life on Valentines Day in 1979. He is my firstborn son. Happy Birthday Stephen Ross Burrel Cox!

Another pre Valentines Day quote.

This amazing photo reminds me of Oscar Wilde somehow. To me he was one of the most captivating men and writers of all time.

A kiss is a lovely trick designed by nature to stop speech when
words become superfluous. ~Ingrid Bergman

Favorite Things.

Just having a blog where you can indulge in talking about your favorite design, color, art and creating is more than enough fun, but I thought I'd post some of my other favorite things too. In every profile, when asked to state my favorite things, it's always chandeliers and lemon tarts. Can't really explain it more than the obvious awesomeness of both. Here are some faves gone by.

Happy Saturday! Mish if you and Gary have any lemon tart pics I would like to see them...
