Nice To See You All Again.

Greetings my fellow bloggers,

I have really missed you all! Had a bump in the road. I hope you are all well and I imagine you are all into the Christmas swing. I am really enjoying this time of year. Grandson's birthday is the 14th of December so this month has alot of extra joy. He's so amazing. I think I have mentioned his name is Cole Edward James and what a character. We have been watching Christmas shows for months now which is quite amazing for a 2 year old.

I did quite a few of my wallcards for Christmas and and am working on a another 3d installation. So much fun making a mess.

Pink and black, always works.

Love this one and always seem to have to include one or two of these vintage shots.

some pink some white, but chic.

retro pristine. I love the hanging chair and rail in the background.
Some warm winter color. I never thought a quilt could look so chic.

I know I've posted this one before, but I still love it and thought it belonged with these. Sumptuous velvet........ always on top. How I want this ottoman.

It took me awhile to decide if I liked this doodle or not and I've decided that I do. What do you think about it?

Oh to edit and edit until I was left with this dreamy corner.

I love that this reflects femininity without being fussy. sooo pretty I could see it with a black mid century modern table beside it.

.....and last but not least some glorious Billy Haines design. These are so perfect, there is really nothing to add. I love how unstuffy his design translated.
Deborah.

Random But Pretty

I thought this tree on the wall was kind of pretty. Please forgive me for springing this before Halloween, but it looked friendly.
mmm silk and pink.......

pretty..... white.....must haves.

We always need at least one Lillian Bassman.

Lighted carpet. What do you think about this. Intriguing or ridiculous?

so fine.... and so pretty with that echo of modern.

I liked this piece, but I loved the floor!

some fun silly wallpaper called "Go Cat Go" from Lewis and Wood.

I found this a few months ago and it's so profound and so true .
Thank you to you who have chosen to follow my blog. I appreciate your encouragement and sorry that it has been a little sporadic lately.

Out and about with lighting.

This is absolutely exquisite. This shade of turquoise is so captivating to me. I am trying to imagine this dimmed with no other lights on at night.
I have , after being back and forth on this one, decided I like it. The metallic finish I think, helps it not to be too encroaching. What do you think?

These are playful but still grown up enough to hold their own. They remind me of pieces from a European lighting firm called Aqua.

This too would be pretty dimmed down..... lots of sparkle.

texture and more texture. Do you like the wallpaper? I would like a cluster of these flowers .....
soo pretty. I love how lighting can change and really have such a different effect in the Fall.
Lighting can be so warm and just suit the hot cider and good book you now have time to read. Welcome Autumn.
Have missed you all. Sometimes the curveballs slow things down. They don't stop me, just slow things down for a day or two.

Design Quote for Friday

Have you ever noticed how some rooms exude a certain energy, warmth, and a harmony of spirit? If you have, then you have experienced the language of the home. A language softly spoken, and universally understood.

Stop the Presses!!!!!

You must check out the video of this play called "A Conversation With Edith Head" This amazingly talented woman named Susan Claassen has created a glimpse into Edith's world. The website is engaging and beautiful. Do have a look. She is charming and has impeccable comedic timing.

Here is an excerpt from her website.http://www.edithhead.biz/index.html

"....to create a theatrical performance based upon the legendary Hollywood costume designer, Edith Head, has been a dream come true. I first got the idea several years ago. I was watching a television biography of Edith Head. I literally did a double take. My physical resemblance to Edith Head was uncanny. The more I watched, the more I knew there was a story to be told ..."

It is quite remarkable how Susan looks exactly like Edith Head!

I would love to see this play at this theatre. How charming.

Bravo Susan!!

One more excerpt from Susans website:http://www.edithhead.biz/
Edith Head died in 1981 of a progressive and rare blood disease, myeloid metaplasia, two weeks after completing work on her last film, Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid. She left her estate to the Motion Picture and Television Fund and to other charitable organizations aiding Native American children and her beloved animals. Her funeral was attended by hundreds, including not only Hollywood’s stars but also the backlot people. A Paramount security guard dressed in a uniform designed by Edith Head mused, “I remember her real well. At Christmas she took care of everyone on the lot. She was the greatest designer in the world. Edith Head was quite a girl.” And that she was.
Enjoy!

Edith Head. Say no more!

Edith Head is one of my favorite costume designers from the greatest days of Hollywood. She won 8 Oscars and was nominated for 35. She had a trademark for all the great dancers that I love. She would hand dye the shoes and socks of the male dancers so there would be one continuous flow of the leg, not broken up by unnecessary lines. She worked in 1131 films which is just jaw dropping. Some you probably recognize are White Christmas, Breakfast at Tiffany's, The Seven Year Itch, Sabrina ,Roman Holiday , The Caddy, Houseboat with Sophia Loren, one of my faves, I love Lucy and The Greatest Show on Earth.... just to mention a few. She was eccentric, but apparently very diplomatic and went out of her way to be inclusive with her staff, which I love.

These are some shots from some of her movies and her beloved book "How to Dress For Success"

I just had to share them. They are from such a different era, but modern glamorous sensibilities. Enjoy!

One of the great beauties had the thrill of Edith Head's creations

What a talent. I love her own look too.

It must have been such an amazing job dressing Audrey.

This is one of my favorite gowns

Lucy's wardrobe on I love Lucy was this perfect balance of wife and home maker and this glorious understated glamor. Such a feat!

Love this eye candy of a movie, "To Catch a Thief" What a gorgeous film! Set Decoration is dizzying and Edith's finery on these two top notch actors puts it over the top.

I love her quirky,"I know who I am" look.

Breakfast at Tiffany's would not have been the film it is without Edith. Can you imagine?

Audrey and Edith.

Liz in one of Edith's brilliant and stunning masterpieces.

Classic Edith

.....and probably the most iconic dresses of all time on Marilyn, from Seven Year Itch.

Vera Ellen knocking it out of the park!

I just love this illustrations from her book.

loving the xray technique..

Love it!!!!

Hilarious and sweet.

What a talent in these sketches too.

This is my favorite. She is getting a chuckle here with a self portrait I think.

Do check this out.

I hope you enjoyed this little trip into nostalgic glamor. I think the beauty of her work is that it's timeless and will always be chic and sophisticated.
Leave a comment and let me know what you thought.
Thanks,
Deborah
